I was born in the 80s (1981 to be exact), and I love my childhood. But when it comes to fashion, music and rest of popular culture, you have to admit: 80s sucked a big time.

Remember those “wild” hairstyles that made you look like Edward Scissorhands? Ugh. These were really popular among Yugoslavian folk singers, such as Lepa Brena (don’t ask). But international musicians loved that hairstyle as well, especially, well, hair bands. And that guy Jonbo. Oh, how he loooved it.

Which brings me to subject of music. I might sound like a complete bitch but 80s music makes me vomit. Yes, I know there were some good stuff, like R.E.M. or Dire Straits or late Queen or early RHCP… And late 80s were also the time when that new Seattle alternative sound (lately called grunge) was born. But that was a minority, and most of us never learned about those bands before the 90s.

In the 80s, that-music-tv-thing was born. Which made videos extremely popular, and, as we all know, killed radio star. Cassettes were extremely popular, which in turn, killed vinyl (we can argue about this). Oh, those 80s!

Interesting, 80s were a good thing when it comes to Yugoslavian rock music. Best bands from all over Yugoslavia were rockin’ in the 80s to make an interesting sound of a country that will break up no more than 10-15 years after that sound was born.
